The world was tinted in a sizzling pink hue within the run-up to the blockbuster Barbie film, whose promotional marketing campaign was arguably the largest advertising and marketing occasion of the 12 months. For some time, the doll and her glitzy aura have been inescapable due to Mattel and Warner Bros.’ savvy advertising and marketing groups. There have been Barbie-themed vogue collections, baggage traces, meals objects and curler skates—even her iconic Dreamhouse was listed on Airbnb. However the easiest and maybe boldest assertion was a brilliant pink billboard with no photos or phrases moreover the movie launch date, July 21. So ubiquitous was the character at that time—and so assured was the film’s advertising and marketing machine—that the colour alone was sufficient to convey a message: It was Barbie’s world, and we have been simply residing in it. —Brittaney Kiefer
